Vintage Bowman Dairy Milk Bottle
We love the look of these vintage milk jugs! Perfect to use as a watering vessel on watering day, or spruce up a shelf in your home with an interesting piece of Chicago history.
This is one of the milk delivery bottles used by Bowman Dairy, which began in 1874 in St. Louis before moving its headquarters to Chicago in 1891. From this point on Bowman was one of the largest names in dairy in the city, helping pioneer milk delivery routes and new types of dairy pasteurization from the 1890's to the 1960's. The company's gradual decline began following lawsuits from other dairy companies that claimed Bowman's incredible size was making it impossible to compete in the region.
Ultimately the dairy company closed it's doors in 1966, but up until that point Bowman remained family owned and operated in the Ravenswood area.
